B-School Competition Soars, Admissions Interviews Crack Down Top MBA Students & Alumni Speak Out on the Admissions Interview

With rising application numbers over the past four years, according to the Graduate Management Admission Council, b-schools have been continuously upping the ante on admission. Each school has their own method to the madness and while most spell out their application requirements clearly--essay topics, test scores, references--one major aspect of the admissions process remains largely mysterious to applicants: the admissions interview.

"There are critical steps to preparing for the interview but most people go in blind," says Alon Karmiel, one of ZoomInterviews' founders. When Karmiel looked more closely at the market, he saw there was nothing out there for applicants preparing for interviews with top schools. The only options he saw were private sessions with admissions consultants that cost from $250 to $300 an hour. "There is no affordable product people can use to prepare," says Karmiel. "There's a huge need and it hasn't been met."

MBA students and alumni from top programs wanted to help. They conducted and recorded mock admissions interviews, each focused on the particular approaches used at top programs including Harvard, Wharton, Booth, and Kellogg.
